I charge £70 per hour but this is negotiable depending on the client’s circumstances. Before they take up any therapy we will have an initial consultation which is free of charge.

I left the NHS three years ago in order to commence studying for my Hypnotherapy qualifications. I needed a change and I had always been interested in Hypnotherapy, mostly as it had helped me through a rough patch in my own life and I knew it worked. I interviewed and got accepted onto the Professional Practitioner Hypnotherapy course at the Essex Institute of Clinical Hypnosis and studied full time for a year. After graduating and getting my diplomas I set up my own business and can now enjoy working for myself.
To be registered with the UK Confederation of Hypnotherapy Organisations (UKCHO) you need to have been examined and awarded a recognised and professionally taught Diploma. All Hypnotherapists will soon have to be registered by law so if you are seeking a therapist make sure they are listed before going to them. I have an Advanced Diploma in Hypnosis with Psychotherapy, Diploma in Hypnoanalysis (Advanced) and specialist Diplomas in Psychosexual disorders and Eating disorders.
My day consists of seeing clients, usually no more than five a day. Although they are only in for an hour (except for Stop Smoking sessions which are two hours) there is a lot to do before in preparation and afterwards making sure notes are complete. Depending on the clients in I could be doing a combination of all sorts of therapy, suggestion work, deep analytical work, psychotherapy, EFT or sometimes just a chat. It’s never boring!
What was your best day at work?
So far every day has been good so it’s hard to have a best day at work. I do particularly enjoy end sessions when your client goes out a changed and happier person, ready to get the best out of the rest of their life. There is heaps of job satisfaction!
What was your worst day at work?
I have not had any bad days at work; it’s not that sort of job. As I work for myself I am in control and if I do not want to or cannot work, I don’t.
Are there any perks to your job?
Massive job satisfaction, actually wanting to go into work.
What do you like about your job?
There is a lot of variety and nothing is set. Every day is different because every client is different. I enjoy meeting people and helping them resolve their issues and get better or change old habits. It is very rewarding and something I wished I did years ago. I can see myself doing this to I retire as it is totally under my control, I work when I want to.
What don’t you like about your job?
Nothing.
Personal Comments
Changing careers as I approached 40 was the best thing I have ever done. I went from a job I hated to one where I love every minute I am working. I want to get into teaching this in time as then I will have a job until I retire, that’s of course if I do. I know many therapists earning a good living well past retirement age. As long as you have your voice and your brain you can work as long as you wish, you will only get better with experience.I have been working as a Hypnotherapist now for one year. I also work at the school where I trained as a course assistant helping to train new therapists which I have been doing for since January 2009.
Hypnotherapy is going through the process of being regulated by the government at the moment as there are a lot of people who are calling themselves Hypnotherapists who have not been professionally trained. In this context it a profession Allied to Health. Our aim is to provide help to people to resolve mind related matters using hypnosis as one of many techniques currently available.
